ChatGPT Commerce Strategy: Framework

Owned, Earned, and Paid Channels for AI-Native Commerce
ChatGPT has evolved from a conversational tool into a commerce platform with massive reach, and the shift is already changing how shoppers discover and buy. In this white paper, Syntheum introduces a three-channel strategy - Owned, Earned, and Paid - designed to help retail and DTC brands build a credible, controlled presence in ChatGPT and other AI engines, before competitors define the narrative for them.
You’ll learn how to:
-
Launch an Owned presence with branded ChatGPT Apps that function like a micro-storefront, with your voice, rules, and product discovery flows
-
Improve Earned visibility through AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and commerce eligibility requirements (ACP), driven by stronger product data and structured governance
-
Get ahead of Paid AI-native promotion as monetization expands, and understand how these channels reinforce each other in real shopping scenarios
The guide includes a 2026 implementation roadmap so teams can move from assessment to launch to optimization, with clear metrics and risk considerations.
1. Who this policy is for
Syntheum provides Search & Discovery apps for SFCC and Shopify ("the App") that replaces a merchant's storefront search with AI-powered search and a conversational shopping assistant. This policy explains what personal data the App processes, why, and the choices available.
It covers two groups:
-
Merchants - Store owners and their staff who install and use the App.
-
Shoppers - Visitors and customers of a merchant's storefront who use the search widget or whose orders are measured for search attribution.
For shopper data, the merchant is the data controller and Syntheum acts as a data processor on the merchant's behalf. Our processing of shopper data is also governed by our Data Processing Addendum with the merchant.
Empower Merchants with Ease and Intelligence
